About

The Cape Ann Garden Club is a non-profit headquartered in Gloucester, Massachusetts. 

The organization was established in 1924 to encourage environmental conservation across Cape Ann.  A century later, we remain dedicated to fostering a love of gardening while supporting the conservation and preservation of Cape Ann’s natural environment. 

As pressures on nature’s ecosystems intensify, the club is focused on creating and sustaining natural spaces.  Members are committed to supporting native plant species across Cape Ann, be they in public gardens or their own backyards. We actively bolster natural local ecosystems, educate the public through demonstration and information, and inspire future generations to do the same.

The club currently has two native garden establishment projects, with more to come.

Native Garden at the Leonard School

This garden at the home of the Annisquam Exchange in Annisquam, Massachusetts is populated entirely with native plants to encourage all of us to educate ourselves about the importance of supporting native pollinators. Established: Spring 2025

Rejuvenation of Gardens at Gloucester City Hall - Centennial Year Project 


The Cape Ann Garden Club is contributing to an important environmental movement in Gloucester: one that results in a greener, cooler, more climate change-resilient City Center through a more impactful native species presence.  Established: Spring 2026

We have begun to transition the plants on the City Hall property to native plants that support pollinators, further populating the ecosystem begun with the planting of native trees.  Two beds on Warren street have been completed; each native plant is marked with  an identification sign. Work will continue in 2026 and 2027.
